Semester Two
Mooting is a compulsory component of the first year law program at the University of Newcastle and the UNLSA junior mooting competition gives new law students the chance to test the waters of advocacy without the pressure of being formally assessed.
The competition which is run in second semester, will give competitors the unique chance of researching a hypothetical case and presenting their arguments in front of a judge in a real court setting. Teams of 2 or 3 students will act as either appellant or respondent in a mock court case which has gone to appeal.
Participation in the junior mooting competition can be a great advantage to all students as it allows individuals to build confidence before their official mooting debut in their first year assessment.
